With the holidays swiftly approaching, I see a lot of y’all getting the trees and house primped and ready for the festivities. I spent my weekend at The Toronto Christmas Market in the Distillery Village last weekend in dire search of Christmas spirit, I did find some art and accessories that made me well happy tho!
Any who, I shall get on about that another time. Right about now, let’s get into some musical sounds by Jackie Venson.
Indie blues guitarist Jackie Venson is making noise on the streets with her new live self-titled album recorded at Strange Brew in Austin, Texas. Venson also hails from Austin and man, can she make a guitar wail. Recently named as on of the “10 indie black guitarists you should know” by SheShreds Magazine, Jackie Venson’s smooth, yet aggressive cut of blues is gaining momentum with music fans all over.
The cool thing about her live album is that she incorporates reggae, rock and R&B into her sound. It’s sultry, it’s enticing, and actually pretty dope. Where her vocals are a tad on the whispery side for me, she still holds her own. However, when she takes hold of her instrument, there’s no denying that that’s where the magic lies. There’s no stopping the lady when there’s a smokin’ drum solo to egg her on. It’s a beautiful thing! Venson just recently preformed on Late Night With Stephen Colbert in the past week. Niceness! I’m sure there will be many more show stops for her in the near future.
