Mint Condition’s Stokely is on another “Level”

Hey Soulsters!

What’s the good word?

Listen. A few days ago, something hit my inbox that made my eyes light up and my soul jump for joy. If you’re a Mint Condition (MC) fan, then news of Stokely‘s new single “Level” is going to be music to your ears.

Over the years, Stokely has shown his dexterity as the lead vocalist in Mint Condition, and if you’ve had the pleasure of seeing them live, then you surely understand the musicianship and artistry behind the group, and Stokely. This single and solo album has been a long time coming. As fans, we’ve all been silently waiting in the shadows for a solo album from the man himself. He’s an astute vocalist who can run riffs like a mutha, and play almost every instrument under the sun. Contemporaries such as Anderson.Paak and Childish Gambino extracted their sound of soul from their hip hop roots to create soulful and rhythmical albums, and to step out more into their own and become destined for bigger things to come. There is absolutely no difference with Stokely (even though his transition is from a group, rather than a genre) as he steps out of the light of MC and into the solo realm. He has had our attention since “Pretty Brown Eyes” with MC and now with that same effortlessness he brings us the new single “Level”.

“Level” is a fantastic track with an undeniable groove. Actually, very similar to his group’s sound. But I would think that brings over a touch of familiarity. It’s not a bad thing at all, it definitely works. The bass-heavy, body-wave inducing track is solid R&B feel good vibes for your aural stimulation.
