About a month ago, I had a time chatting it up with Shamier Anderson, Stephan James and Keshia Chanté for ByBlacks. The interview was so much fun, and the energy between the three of them was live. If you haven’t read my piece yet, here you go.
Keshia is our new host this year! Judging from their synergy alone, I already know the show is going to continue on the same frequency as last year, but with a good dose of Keshia’s effervescent energy, a host of great performances and mad antics galore.
Did you watch last year’s show? It’s never too late. It was an extravaganza and then some. We don’t know what to expect this year, and they wouldn’t divulge any goodies during our interview (I tried!), but I know they’ll surely return with the goods and then some.
Yesterday, Shamier Anderson and Stephan James, alongside Insight Productions and CBC, announced the recipients of the 2023 Legacy Awards. Their stellar list includes:
– 2023 Visionary Award recipient: television actor, activist, producer and screen industry veteran Tonya Williams
– 2023 Trailblazer Award recipient: Julien Christian Lutz – whom we all know and celebrate as the pioneering Director X
– 2023 Icon Award recipient: platinum-selling, JUNO award-winning artist, songwriter, philanthropist, health enthusiast and Canada’s Walk of Fame inductee Jully Black
– 2023 Emerging Artist Award recipient: rising pop star LU Kala.
Don’t forget to vote in the final round for the Fan Choice Digital Content Creator Award! Voting opens on Friday, September 1. The winner will be announced during The Legacy Awards on Sunday, September 24.
Lastly, since my article dropped, y’all have been asking me non-stop when tickets were going on sale. I love to see the excitement! Well, your chance has arrived, my friends. The pre-sale tickets are out at 11 am TODAY. Make sure to grab yours as soon as possible with the presale code: TLA2023. There are a limited number available to the public starting at $120, and I’m sure they’re going to move fast. The presale ends on Wednesday, September 6th.
The 2023 edition of The Legacy Awards marks the second of an exclusive three-year partnership with CBC. Let’s continue to support programming for us, by us. This is history in the making. Tweet, share the info, tell a friend and watch the show. That’s the only way we will continue to grow together.
Look out for more announcements from the camp regarding award presenters and performances.
The Black Academy, Insight Productions, and CBC are committed to hiring Black senior staff and crew members for The Legacy Awards. Please check the website for more information if you would like to join their team.
The Legacy Awards will be available on CBC and CBC Gem on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at 8 p.m. (9 p.m. AT/9:30 p.m. NT).
Until next time…
