Guys, it’s literally 1:56am. I’m on my sofa coming off of an extreme high after D-Nice’s jam session and I felt compelled to write a blog post.
With a huge jug of water at his side and his music as his accomplice, D-Nice made history last night and he was a dope DJ before, but damn, last night he solidified his spot as a dope ass legend in the game.
In this time of panic, mania, misinformation, isolation and worry – DJ D-Nice showed up and showed out, sharing his gift with the world. Amongst some of the stupidity that we continue to hear about on the daily (toilet paper hoarding, anyone?) there are the stories of those who are coming together to help and support one another during this unprecedented time. It could be helping your next door neighbour with groceries, assisting those in need with food or supplies, or it can be as simple as playing music for the masses to tune into, allowing us to clear our heads a bit and forget what brought us to this moment in the first place.
It’s no lie that music itself is a superpower. It’s a connector. It’s a stress reliever. It’s a healer. And D-Nice showed all of us just how much of a healing tool it can be. For the past 5 days, he’s been playing tunes to remedy the soul. Let me tell y’all, we’ve been privy to some sets and like I said on my Instagram stories, if you haven’t taken a session in as yet, you’re seriously missing out.
While he’s been steadily pulling in numbers over the past few days, Saturday night’s dance party brought in a whopping 100k attendees. Dude deserves a King of Instagram badge or some recognition. He’s had major and I mean, major star power pass through. Luminaries such as Ava Duvernay, Oprah Winfrey, Naomi Campbell, Will Smith, Rihanna, Michelle Obama, Jada Pinkett Smith, Donnie Simpson (yes, you read right!), Janet Jackson, Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle, Stevie Wonder, Lenny Kravitz, Queen Latifah, JLo, LL Cool J, MC Lyte, Ellen Degeneres and more. And let’s not forget the politicians who stopped by to get their groove on: Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden and more. Suffice it to say, almost every celebrity we know who loves them a tune or two was in the place showing love.

From soul classics to a few soca and reggae chunes (shouts to the Caribbean massive who showed out with some flag love!), it was a non-stop party. To make it even more dope, D-Nice changed as many fedora hats in 9 and half hours (his sets go long!) as Diana Ross used to at a Grammy telecast. You saw your fam up in there, hollerin’ for drink orders and people ready to head out and grab their parking lot food truck run. It was better than a club scene, it was the house party you always dreamed of attending – but right in the comfort of your own digs with a guest list you couldn’t even fathom.
What makes this event so special is that it is needed at a time while we’re floating amidst uncertainty and confusion. It was an effort to bring people together to free up and enjoy themselves. It was a moment to get lost in the vibes and leave the heavy baggage behind for a time. The reoccurring message I kept on seeing was, “My God, this is exactly what I needed.” No doubt, this was something that everyone needed. I even had Sugar Plum jamming to some songs during bath time. Personally, D-Nice brought my #auralstimulation for the week to a whole other level and brought my vibe level up a few notches too.
If you haven’t taken in one of D-Nice’s Homeschool virtual dance party‘s as yet, then I implore you to do so. Look for the red ring and jump on in. It will do your soul some good and add some positive vibrations to your day that you most likely are not even aware you are in need of. Make sure you are able to come equipped with some ammunition when someone asks you, “Where were you when D-Nice made history on Instagram?”
Music heads, have your response ready because I guarantee you that people will be coming to you with a story of lifetime.
