For those who know me, I love fashion. Always have. My people, if you follow my Instagram account, you will know that I have a sick obsession with accessories. Particularly, statement necklaces. Or as I like to call them, my “neckpieces”. I am always looking for a new designer to wear, and I am sure many of y’all are as well. I truly believe, and we all know, fashion and music go together merrily hand in hand. While I am always approached to write about fashion, I simply stayed clear since I didn’t think y’all would be interested. You guys told me otherwise when I attended World Mastercard Fashion Week and wrote nary a review! So with that being said, I am so excited to share this designer with you.
Let me tell you the condensed version of how I got to know Toronto designer Tanya Théberge.
Of course, it all began with music, at an Erykah Badu concert. We stood shoulder to shoulder in a packed venue watching Badu do her thing. Not until the end of the show did we look at each other and relay how we were both well caught up and under Badu’s spell. Two days later, I noticed a comment on my Instagram pic of Badu taken from the show. It was from Ms. Théberge herself. “Hey, you were next to me at the Erykah Badu show!”, she stated. And the rest is, as they say, history. I, of course, was intrigued by her designer status and looked her up. Her Théberge Custom (bathing) Suits are exquisitely designed and meticulously garnished with jewels, Swarovski crystals, feathers and anything she can get her creative hands on. After returning from studying at L’Ecole de la Chamber Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in Paris, Tanya is branching out and prepping her debut fashion line simply entitled – Théberge. She would like to debut the collection at Fashion Art Toronto (F.A.T ) in April this year but needs your support, and $15k to make it all become a reality.
