This weekend on Saturday, September 14th, event producer extraordinaire Ian Andre Espinet is celebrating 14 years of the yearly extravaganza that is The Legendary Amnesia Party. Since its inception, Ian has had performances by Naughty By Nature, Zhane, S.W.V., TDot Allstars, Dres of Black Sheep and more. Let me not forget to mention, the aural stimulation is brought to you by none other than DJ Starting From Scratch and DJ Jason Chambers. This show is a definite sell out every single year, and he always manages to keep his guest artists under wraps until last minute, when everyone loses their minds with regret once they realize they don’t have a ticket to the festivities – and they’re all sold out.
Last week, Ian announced that his first musical guest is none other than the BDK himself, Big Daddy Kane. In case y’all don’t know, next to Rakim, this cat here is my favourite MC of all time. Have I seen him before in concert? Yes. He was actually one of the first concerts that I attended in my hometown of Montreal as a kid, with my big brother. I have seen him about 3 times after that, including his 25th-anniversary party in NYC. Did I spit every verse? Yes. Even though I am a soulful kind of woman, don’t get it twisted – I love my hip hop and I will get it in. As for the other guest, Ian hasn’t mentioned who it is as yet, but I’m sure she/they (as he has recently hinted) will be worth the wait! I know she will be!
So I’m here to give you a heads up, and I don’t want to hear anything about “Oh, I didn’t know that was happening!” You just may want to get on purchasing those tickets asap.
