Late last year, I was able to sit down with Canada’s Queen of Soul and R&B Ms. Jully Black on my radio show The Rhythm with AMC. Sean and I had a ball chatting with Jully about her upcoming release Made In Canada, almost meeting Michael Jackson, some of her favourite albums and more. Jully has been steadily dropping singles and albums on us for the past 20 years. Yup. 20 years. And let’s not forget that she’s also an accomplished actress and songwriter, having written for the likes of Destiny’s Child, Sean Paul, Nas and more. I guarantee you that you either know a Jully Black track and weren’t aware, or you are a bona fide fan through and through.
I fall into the latter group. I’ve been a fan from jump. North Face jackets, frigid video scenes, lyrics and all. Fast forward to the here and now and Jully is bringing us “Fever” – another hot and solid soulful track from the upcoming Made In Canada. Jully’s strength and vocal skills are front and centre on this one, with an intoxicating and alluring old school loop balancing out the vibes.
