February has arrived, which means Black History month is here! The month will be filled with events to attend and this year, the highly anticipated annual end-of-month event in Toronto — the Black Diamond Ball, will be celebrating its 5th anniversary!
I’m really excited about finally attending this shindig. This has been 4 years in the making (don’t ask)! Over the past 5 years, the Black Diamond Ball has brought the community together for a night of fundraising, music, culture and memorable moments. Shawn Cuffie, CEO of DLM Entertainment and Artistic Director of the not-for-profit organization Art Xperiential Projects, had a vision from the beginning, but he didn’t think it would have culminated to this. The Black Diamond Ball has become one of the most anticipated, black-tie fundraiser events on our calendar. On the fundraising side, the event has raised funds to support community initiatives such as the Jamaal Magloire Foundation, The Boys and Girls Club of East Scarborough and The Pinball Clemons Foundation. Since its inception, the Black Diamond Ball has sold-out annually and has had Canadian talent like The Recipee, Divine Brown, Michie Mee, Jully Black and more, celebrating Black Canadians in culture, entertainment and the arts. Alongside the Canadian talent, we have also seen heavy U.S. headliners hit the stage like Brandy, Mya, Andra Day and Keri Hilson rock the night away.
This year on February 29th, 2020 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel and presented by Rogers Communications and the TD Ready Commitment, the Black Diamond Ball will be coming in full force and according to Shawn, he is creating a soiree that we will never forget! Depending on the tickets you purchase, you have the choice to enjoy the dinner, the Gift Lounge and VIP. The Recipee band is back with their infectious live sounds, followed by a serious line up of Canadian talent. And for the first time in Black Diamond Ball headliners, the suave sounds of a male singer will be taking front and centre stage courtesy of R&B crooner Tank!
Are you ready? Y’all are not ready.
Funds from the Black Diamond Ball will be allocated to ArtXperiential #Safespace365 – an initiative created by Cuffie to help in the fight against bullying and cyber-bullying. To learn more, please visit their media section here.
So it’s safe to say that I will be getting glammed up and turnin’ up with my girlfriends at this amazing event. Be sure to purchase your tickets soon, because this event is guaranteed to sell out, and that is not a fallacy. And don’t forget this year’s theme is Rhythm & Blues, so let’s see y’all turn it out with the outfits! I’m leaving you with ticket info and the like, so no excuses! And of course I will have a recap post for y’all with pics and all. I hope to see you there!
